Earlier this morning, Microsoft Outlook was experiencing performance issues. Users may have found their Outlook clients to run slow or crash repeatedly. As of 11:45am, Microsoft has applied a configuration update to resolve this issue, but impacted users may still need to take an extra step to fix their experience:

  • Outlook client and app users should restart their client or app to apply changes. Outlook desktop client users may need to perform this action twice due to caching issues.
  • Outlook on the web users should refresh their sessions. If that does not mitigate the issue, users are encouraged to clear their browser cache and refresh their Outlook on the web session.
Partially Unavailable

Users may notice Outlook using an increased amount of system resources, causing the client to freeze or crash. This may also be impacting the performance of Outlook web access (https://uomail.uoregon.edu) and Outlook mobile apps. Microsoft is working to restore service.

Email delivery delays — Update (10/3/24 at 11:00am):

External email delivery is improving today following a change made by Information Service staff around 9:30am. Staff are continuing to monitor the situation, but expect delivery conditions to continue improving through the day as a backlog of mail clears through our email systems.

Any continuing delays are only impacting mail to and from external, non-UO addresses — including official UO mass emails. Internal email — from a UOmail address to a UOmail address — is delivering at normal speed.

Email delivery delays — Update (10/2/24 at 5:00 p.m.): Some email delivery is delayed. Internal email — from a UOmail address to a UOmail address — is delivering at normal speed. But mail to and from external, non-UO addresses — including official UO mass emails — is intermittently being queued, causing delays of varying lengths, up to hours. Information Services staff have ruled out multiple internal causes and begun engaging vendors for support in resolving this issue.
